Terms for a selected research package
Version 2026-08-18.3. Contribution is separate, optional, and confirmed for the selected package before upload.
Effective and last updated 18 August 20261. Optional and separate programme
The Splatfiction contribution programme is optional, off by default, and not required to use the local beta or obtain a local Output. These Optional Data Contribution Terms (the Contribution Terms) apply only when you deliberately select project data, accept these Contribution Terms, give the separate privacy choice presented for the upload, and submit the package.
Ordinary use, acceptance of the Beta Use Conditions, and performance analytics do not grant a model-training licence over your project data.
You may contribute if you can lawfully accept these Contribution Terms and grant the permissions they describe. If applicable law requires a parent or legal guardian to accept or consent for you, that person must do so. If you contribute for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Contribution Terms and provide the selected data for that organisation.
2. What may be contributed
Before upload, the interface must identify the categories selected for the package. Depending on the contribution feature, they may include:
- reduced copies of selected photos or video frames;
- camera calibration, per-frame camera information, timestamps, or estimated poses;
- sparse or dense points, tracks, depth, normals, masks, meshes, point clouds, or Gaussian splats;
- reconstruction settings, run metadata, quality measurements, failure categories, and limited diagnostics; and
- a pseudonymous contribution reference used for integrity, duplicate prevention, withdrawal, and deletion requests.
Original filenames and local paths must not be intentionally included. Do not contribute data that is not shown in the contribution review.
3. Your ownership and permissions
You retain ownership of the material that you contribute. You confirm that you own it or have every licence, consent, permission, and lawful basis needed to provide it for the purposes in section 4, including permissions concerning identifiable people, private places, artwork, confidential information, and third-party intellectual property.
Do not contribute illegal material, credentials, special-category personal data unless specifically requested with an appropriate lawful process, biometric identification datasets, confidential material you are not authorised to disclose, or content whose contribution would violate another person's rights.
4. Contribution licence
For each package that you submit, you grant the Rights Holder a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence, for the raw-package retention period, to host, reproduce, validate, secure, reformat, transform, align, annotate, label, combine, analyse, evaluate, and otherwise process the contributed package for research, development, training, fine-tuning, testing, validation, benchmarking, security, quality improvement, and operation of current and future Splatfiction reconstruction, alignment, pose-estimation, rendering, and related features.
The licence includes use in research prototypes and free or paid Splatfiction products and services. It does not transfer ownership of your contributed material.
The Rights Holder may permit hosting providers, processors, and research or engineering contractors acting on the Rights Holder's behalf to perform these activities under appropriate confidentiality, security, and data-protection obligations. The licence may be transferred with the Splatfiction project or relevant intellectual property to a successor operator that assumes these obligations. It may not be transferred for an unrelated sale of raw contribution data.
5. Restrictions protecting contributors
The contribution licence does not permit Splatfiction to:
- sell raw identifiable contribution packages as a dataset;
- use raw contribution packages for third-party advertising or advertising profiles;
- publish identifiable source photographs as a public hosted gallery;
- use the package to build facial-recognition or biometric-identification systems; or
- publicly disclose confidential or personal content except where required by law or necessary to investigate abuse or a security incident.
Aggregate research information may be published only where it does not identify a contributor or expose identifiable project content.
6. Retention, withdrawal, and deletion
Raw contribution packages and related pseudonymous records are retained for up to 730 days unless deleted sooner or a different period is presented and accepted for a specific programme. Failed or incomplete uploads must be removed sooner.
You may turn contribution off at any time to stop future packages. You may request deletion of a stored package or withdraw privacy consent by contacting support@splatfiction.com and providing the contribution reference or other information sufficient to locate it. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
Deletion may be delayed or limited where retention is required by law, necessary to protect security or integrity, or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim. Splatfiction will explain an applicable limitation where required.
7. Derived models and technical results
Subject to applicable data-protection law, the Rights Holder may retain and use trained model parameters, statistical features, evaluation results, performance measurements, aggregate statistics, and technical improvements created through permitted processing after the raw package is deleted or expires, but only to the extent that those artefacts do not contain, reproduce, or permit the reasonably likely extraction of identifiable contributed content and do not otherwise remain personal data requiring a separate lawful basis.
A model, weight, embedding, feature, or other artefact is not treated as anonymous merely because it is derived. Where a derived artefact remains personal data, its continued use requires an applicable legal basis and the controls required by data-protection law.
Withdrawal or deletion does not require reversal of research or model development already lawfully completed where the retained result satisfies this section.
8. Security and access
Access to raw contribution packages must be limited to authorised persons and service providers who need it for the stated purposes. Packages must be protected with controls appropriate to their sensitivity. No system is perfectly secure, and the Privacy Notice explains the applicable rights and reporting route.
9. No payment or guarantee
Contribution is voluntary and does not create a right to payment, credit, authorship, publication, employment, partnership, or participation in future products. Splatfiction is not required to use a package and does not guarantee that a contribution will improve the Service.
10. Responsibility
You are responsible for the accuracy of your permissions and for not contributing prohibited material. This does not transfer responsibility for the Rights Holder's own processing or legal obligations.
For a Business User only, the business-user reimbursement section of the Beta Use Conditions applies to third-party claims directly caused by a contribution that the Business User knew or should reasonably have known it was not authorised to provide.
11. Changes, governing law, and relationship to other documents
Material changes receive a new version and require renewed acceptance for future contributions. An earlier accepted version continues to govern a package already submitted unless applicable law requires another result or you validly agree to a replacement.
The governing-law, consumer-rights, severability, enforcement, and contact provisions of the Beta Use Conditions apply to these Contribution Terms. The Privacy Notice governs personal-data processing. If the documents conflict, the more specific Contribution Terms control the data-licence question and the Privacy Notice controls personal-data rights and legal bases.
